The following are public websites that I have designed and constructed.
Example 1: Http://HullTaeKwonDo.awardspace.com
This website is for a Kim's Taekwon-Do school in Rainier, Washington.
- Laid out using CSS. CSS is also used for the rollover menu.
- Cross-browser-compatible on Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari.
- Non-photo graphics created by me in Photoshop; photos modified by me in PhotoShop. All graphics optimized for fast load times.
- W3C-validated CSS. Click here to validate.

- Written in XHTML 1.0 code, W3C-validated. Click here to validate.

- Compliant with U.S. Section 508 accessibility standards - validated using Cynthia. Click here to validate.
- Site constructed using Notepad, uploaded using FTP.
Example 2: Http://ChocolateSheepCreamery.awardspace.com
This website is for a fictitious sheep dairy.
- Wholly laid out using CSS code; there are no tables or frames. The look of the entire site may be updated at once by changing the style sheet.
- Cross-browser-compatible for both IE and Mozilla-type browsers.
- The order form page uses custom JavaScripts that I wrote to perform its calculations, and a separate IE-printer-friendly style sheet. Feel free to experiment with submitting the form.
- All graphics are optimized in PhotoShop for quick display on a slow connection. Sheep logo and related products designed and created by me in Photoshop.
- W3C-validated CSS. Click here to validate.
- W3C-validated HTML 4.0 code. Click here to validate.

- Compliant with U.S. Section 508 accessibility standards - validated using Cynthia. Click here to validate.
- Site constructed using Notepad, uploaded using FTP.
- All text on the site was also written by me.
Example 3: Http://LaurelSmithLaw.com
This website is for a law office. After the site was initially constructed by their site host and found to be unsatisfactory, I consulted with the law firm to ascertain their needs and preferences and completely redesigned and rebuilt the site to present a cleaner, more professional site that better matched the style of the business. Click here to view the site before my redesign.
- Laid out in HTML using tables.
- CSS is used to maintain consistent format and font style throughout the site, allowing quick updates.
- CSS also drives the menu with rollover-effect buttons. No JavaScript is used here.
- All graphics were custom-created for the site by me and were optimized for quick download times in Photoshop (with the exception of the team photos on the site, which were provided by the law office's photographer).
- Pages resize for optimal viewing on large or small computer screen.
- Site was constructed in Notepad and uploaded using Dex's upload interface due to host's FTP limitations; however, Dex's site construction software was not used.
- I currently maintain ongoing maintenance and changes to the site.
- Articles and text for the site were provided by the business, Laurel Smith & Associates, and the photos were taken by the firm's photographer.
Other
The current page (http://sirkka.awardspace.com) was created by me in Notepad using CSS for the layout. The photos and graphics are also mine, and were modified or created using Photoshop.
- At the top of this page there is a switching option to change the layout of the page. The HTML for both pages is the same, but clicking graphs or trains changes the look and feel of the page by applying a different CSS (Cascading Style Sheet).
- The graphs layout (default) features text wrapping around irregularly shaped custom graphics and transparency effects on the background and images (hover over images to see that part of the effect). The page (including transparent behavior) is optimized for current versions of IE, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera (the hover transparency effect has been disabled in older browsers, however, due to lack of universal support).
- The trains layout features an option to set different photos as the background of the page header (best viewed in IE).
I also created and maintained several internal team websites during the course of my work at SafeHarbor using both Dreamweaver and Microsoft SharePoint. Sites built in Dreamweaver included templates, frames, CSS, and dynamic HTML.
I maintain a personal website at http://sirkka.port5.com. It was constructed some years ago and features a simple layout with two primary aims: ease of update and a reasonable download time on a slow connection. To this end, it uses a frame layout and light graphics. The graphics and animations on the site, except where otherwise noted, are my own.
